WSOP Updates Events 1,2 & 3

The first 3 tournaments of the 2011 WSOP are running with 2 well underway and the other in the early stages.

Event #1:  Casino Employees No-Limit Hold'em

Buy-in: $500
Prizepool:  $382 500
Entries:  850
Remaining:  12

What can I say about this one?  Phil Hellmuth Jr. isn't going to win it.  All of the players are random casino employees.  Right now the top player is Daniel Quach who might be a chip runner at O'Sheas - I have no idea.  The top Canadian is Jason Baker in 2nd place.

Event #2:  Heads Up No-Limit Hold'em Championship (256 max)

Buy-in: $25 000
Prizepool:  $3 040 000
Entries:  128
Remaining:  16

Obviously this tournament has a lot more "names" than event #1.  We are down to the round of 16 and some of the players left include Gus Hansen, Tom Dwan, Olivier Busquet, Yevgeniy Timoshenko and Canada's Matt Marafioti.

Event #3:  Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better

Buy-in: $1 500
Prizepool:  $1 248 750
Entries:  925
Remaining:  468

This is believed to be the biggest live Omaha tournament on record.  Barry Greenstein (The Robin Hood of Poker) is leading the pack with 37 000 chips.  He has pretty big chip lead with the 3rd place stack having 22 700 chips.  It is however, Omaha...

Other notables and their chip counts include;

21 000 - Jean-Robert Bellande
17 500 - Men "the Master" Nguyen
11 500 - Erik Seidel
9 000 - Allen Cunningham
6 500 - Ted Forrest
4 500 - Andy Bloch
1 300 - Mike Matusow

0 - Phil Hellmuth
0 - Daniel Negreanu
