2013 Cold Deck Classic Results

January 26, 2013 was the first event in the 2013 World Series of Dip.  As always we start the series off with the Cold Deck Classic.

After a frightening cold week of -35 degree weather, the sun appeared for our game and we lucked out with a -18 game time temperature.

We had a full table of 10 brave souls show up this year with a couple of previous winners trying to win another coveted bracelet.

In the end, Ryan Dyck took down his very first WSOD bracelet in fine style.  He bubbled the first 2 feeder tournaments, but amassed a nice stack of chips in the final tournament which parlayed into a nice run at the final table.  Second place finisher, Schneider and third place winner, Big Stack Bobby Allen were left trying to make a dent in his chip castle before succumbing to Dyck's masterful play and stunning victory.

June 5th 2011 Results and Insults

The Butcher
Dandy knows that if he dresses ridiculously enough, his wife will kick him out of the house and he will be free to play cards for the night.  This get-up should buy him at least 3 nights out.

Our latest home game was a rare Sunday game and Dandy and Brain Kramp reminded me of 2 movies;
Pass The Dip: Dandy Bloch and Brain Kramp in T.O.yland - Original Pass The Dip Video
and...

Dandy played 3rd pair to a winner 60% of the time.  He played Q9 off preflop to a $15 raise 80% of the time and he was downright awesome 100% of the time.  But then again, I'm not really a math guy.

I tried a new strategy - the C.H.i.P.S. strategy.  I burst onto the scene, had everyone watching and then I self destructed.  In the end my C.H.i.P.S. went away.

Kailey and Dycker were like a young Forrest Gump - they ran bad.

Papasan had Jacks 3 times that were shown and each time shoved all in.  After successfully winning all 3 pots, I think the poker community can lay to rest the age old question "How the hell do you play Jacks?"

For being new to the game I was impressed with his play.  He had built a nice profit for himself, and gave very few free chips back to the pot.  And then he met the Anti-Chris.  7 Nation Army and Papasan got in  a big action pot and the postman delivered!  Army's J high flush out pipped Papasan's 8 high flush and Army had crushed another stack.

Co played great and had the chip stack to prove it.  The man has been silently crushing the game for months now.

Brain Kramp was admittedly not only running bad, but playing (and I'm paraphrasing her, despite the official quotes) "as bad as anyone has ever played in the history of the world, ever.  Even worse than if Hellen Keller and the cast of Dumb and Dumber had a baby and then shut it in a room so that the only thing it was ever exposed to was Jersey Shore and then gave it a deck of cards and told it to play poker."  It got so bad that he started frantically texting Sheldonkey to try and goad him into coming for the last hour.  He did manage to have a remarkable turnaround, mainly at my expense, and for that I tip my hat and pin a participation ribbon on his jacket.

I found out why Nat X is in such good shape - he must of been losing a lot at poker lately.  There is nothing like a very very very very long walk to clear your head and shed some pounds.

The night was a very fun one with plenty of frustration in the cards to go around.  The company was good, the conversation was lively and Brain Kramp finally won, so we know he'll be back!

Here are some pictures from the game:

"He has missed parties he has never attended.  He once had a winning hand, just to see how it feels.  He's  lost money betting on solitaire.  He only makes the right folds while doing Origami.  When he was younger, he wrote a song named 'Beck'.  His mother has a tattoo that reads 'childless'.  He can roll his eyes in three different languages.  He is the unluckiest man in the world."

Planning a Second Trip to T.O.

I offer you Kramp's head on a platter.....of chips

Poker for idiots is for idiots indeed.
By the way I kinda feel like Sheldonkey and T-Money Mart got a little gypped in this post.  They both came to play and not only are they not in the pictures, but there is nary an insult in this post to be found.  I will give them their comeuppance next time around.  (That was your comeuppance under your chair was it not, T-Mart?)  I think Sheldon lost his to Brain Kramp in a massive bluff...

The Original Cold Deck Classic Mailer

This is the original attachment for the very first Cold Deck Classic.

The original mailer

Following the event, a plaque was made with the original picture taken out and an outdoor group shot put in its place.  It is flanked by pictures of the winners and has plates noting all the participants that attended.  It can be seen in my poker room.

T Mart Takes Down The Cold Deck Classic 2011

(FOR MORE ON THIS EVENT GO TO THE WSOD OR THE COLD DECK CLASSIC PAGES)

BHiS whis jussst a twestt
HHis ist jsst a twest
This is just a test     - Looks good the fingers are now back to normal!

Congratulations to T-Mart who took down the first WSOD bracelet for 2011 by eliminating all 9 others in what turned out to be our longest Cold Deck Classic to date.

2011 Cold Deck Classic winner - T-Mart
Don't you think she looks like she could go for at least 8 to 10 minutes more?  As it was, we started at 6:30 with 3 feeder tournaments.  We realized quickly that there are a bunch of nits in the game who actually wait for cards - this drew the first game out to over 2 hours.  Maybe the cold didn't kick in yet.

Game one chip totals:

Bob - 0
Kailey - 0
Ali - 1700
Shepit - 0
Clayton - 21150
Army - 9675
T-Mart - 7325
Ryan - 0
Harv - 0
Kramp - 11050

Game 2 went a bit faster, although 1 1/2 hours was over the goal of 1 hour.

Game 2 chip totals:

Bob - 13925
Kailey - 0
Ali - 3675
Shepit - 0
Clayton - 17450
Army - 1900
T-Mart - 11050
Ryan - 0
Harv - 0
Kramp - 0

Game 3 left some interesting dynamics as 4 players had not yet made the final table.  Those comfortable with chips could dump their stack and warm up inside or stay and try and put the nail in the coffin of the 4 who were fighting for their lives.

All accumulated chips from the first 3 games would go to the final table as each players starting stack

Game 3 chip totals:

Bob - 6250
Kailey - 0
Ali - 0
Shepit - 0
Clayton - 4100
Army - 18200
T-Mart - 0
Ryan - 7700
Harv - 0
Kramp - 9750

Well 3 players didn't make it.  As far as I could tell, Kailey got unlucky in a couple spots / Sloppy Slow Pots Shepit got runner runnered by Big Stack Bobby for their stacks and Harv didn't get hands and lost races, which is a bad combo.

All accumulated chips from the first 3 games would go to the final table as each players starting stack.

Final table starting chip counts:

Clayton - 42700
Army - 29800
Bob - 24200
Kramp - 20800
T-Mart - 18400
Ryan - 7700
Ali - 5400

Final standings:

Ryan - 7th
Ali - 6th
Army - 5th
Kramp - 4th
Bob - 3rd
Clayton - 2nd
T-Mart - 1st

Ryan and Ali both didn't have many chips to work with but made good efforts and got their money in decent spots, without any luck.

I believe Army felt like the winner by getting to go inside in 5th.  He reminded me of a run down house (he had terrible shutters).

Kramp put up a good fight but his reads were frosty and he dribbled chips trying to keep me honest.

Bob was in great shape until T-Mart decided it was his time to go, and then she stepped on the gas and ran him over.  She kept out-pipping him for big hands and Big Stack was a No-Stack.

T-Mart started with more chips than I did and I chipped away until I had the chip lead.  Then the pivotal hand came  where I had 2nd touch and an outside straight draw and she had top pair.  Many chips were sacrificed in the carnage.  She went on a bit of a run that I couldn't match and on the final hand my KQ proved 2nd best to her AJ and she took it down (at 2:30 AM no less).  She played great, patient poker despite the fact that she was dying of the cold.  Definitely the deserving winner on this night!

As T-Mart, Kailey and Ali said all night, raise the V.  And that T-Mart did.  By the way, I think is a great logo for The Raging V Poker Club...

Running Time = 8 hours

Temperature = -22 Celsius

Doesn't this make you wonder, "Flap or no flap?"

Staging area - I'm not sure why Jamie brought a jacket - ka-BOOM!

Despite her protests, no one seriously believed that Mia was really Kailey.

This is our poker dugout - this makes my snowblower worth the investment.

...and all of a sudden in a puff of smoke, Gepeddo appeared in seat 8.  Unfortunately that's where the magic ended for him.

Kailey receives a 10 minute no talking ban.

Where there is smoke, there must be fire and boy-howdy is that T-Mart hot...poker and otherwise!

The steam above Ali-G looks like a cartoon bubble (I'm sure if it was it would say "Raise the V" or "I thought peeing my pants would keep me warmer for much longer!")

I think it is ironic that Ali and Kailey were the only people with beaver hats.  In the same vein, Kramp's hat was made out of donkey.

I didn't notice until reviewing the pictures, but I believe Sloppy Slow Pots was drinking from a sippy cup.

Clayton has a ball.

My secret to staying warm for 8 hours?  Hand warmers taped to my nipples.

Mid hand action.  I had the camera and reached around as T-Mart checked her hole cards.  She had my outs and I had to fold.

Pizza delivery arrives.  You can always trust a delivery guy with his  hat on sideways, you know his job offers are minimal.  No pizza guy will ever live up to our Pizza guy, Solly!

Big Stack Bobby and his never ending angle shooting mind games give me the finger.

With all the lights and the feature table, it felt like we were at a WPT final table.  Maybe we can get coverage by shaw next year.

Look at the attentiveness.  Look at the concentration.  Cold-Schmold!!!  Patient, in control, picking the right moment to tear your chips from your grimy little hands, and there is nothing you can do about it!  Now that is a poker mind I do not want to mess with.  And sitting beside her is Kramp, hahahahahahahahaha.

If anyone knows who robbed the Husky station at 2960 Portage Avenue on Monday night, please contact the IPSO or the investigating officers at...

Is this (a) Ryan's tell when gets Aces, (b) Ryan looking at boobs or (c) Ryan doing his best Dandy Bloch imitation?

Now that I can see, I understand why my hands felt so cold.

You'd think it was warm out with all those naked hands.  We've talked about having some summer outside tournament, but it would be more fun with a twist.  Lemon wants us to wear exactly what we wore for this tournament.  Any other suggestions?

Q:  How is Kramp's poker game like the issues he has before the court?  In both cases he gets in trouble for exposing his junk.

5 minutes of warmth then 2 hours of cold.  Seems like a good balance!

Those that made the final table.

Gold, Silver and Bronze.  Somehow this picture foreshadows our actual finishing positions.  Looks like a real podium, doesn't it?

Cold Deck Classic now has a date!

The 4th annual Cold Deck Classic and all that that entails will be held on Monday, January 24th.  RSVP required!

Cards will be dealt at 6:20 so be at my house by 6:00.

It's a big enough deal in these parts that it commands it's own page; check it out for more info on this and past Cold Deck Classics.

This is Event 1 in the 2011 World Series of Dip.  Good luck to you all, second place is wide open at this point.

For those of you that have never been, here is a little taste from last year's game...

(and it was only -8 last year...)

I hate this game.  It always seems like a good idea when you are planning it, but it REALLY sucks when you are actually doing it!  What a bunch of donkemans...
