2013 Cold Deck Classic Results

January 26, 2013 was the first event in the 2013 World Series of Dip.  As always we start the series off with the Cold Deck Classic.

After a frightening cold week of -35 degree weather, the sun appeared for our game and we lucked out with a -18 game time temperature.

We had a full table of 10 brave souls show up this year with a couple of previous winners trying to win another coveted bracelet.

In the end, Ryan Dyck took down his very first WSOD bracelet in fine style.  He bubbled the first 2 feeder tournaments, but amassed a nice stack of chips in the final tournament which parlayed into a nice run at the final table.  Second place finisher, Schneider and third place winner, Big Stack Bobby Allen were left trying to make a dent in his chip castle before succumbing to Dyck's masterful play and stunning victory.

2012 WSOD Events 2 and 3

On December 28th, we held events 2 and 3 of the 2012 World Series of Dip.  It was the first time that we held 2 events in one night and as is usually the case we had petting zoo of donkeys and fish turn out for the chance to win a highly coveted bracelet.

Event 2 was Pot Limit Omaha and even though we play PLO exactly once a year, we had 17 players slap down their christmas money for a shot at the big time.

Previous WSOD winners of PLO are a veritable who's who within Winnipeg's poker community;

Chris "Brain" Kramp
"7 Nation Army" Suba
Clayton "Funk" Schneider
Lemon (In the first incarnation of the WSOD Cold deck Classic which was basically a 1 hour PLO cash game)

Even with 3 of those players present, Andy Bloch came out of nowhere to chew up the competition like he was a mama bird feeding his babies.

Event 2 - 2012 WSOD PLO winner - Andy Bloch
 Interestingly, Andy has a doppelganger in the poker community also named Andy Bloch;

I have a whole section called Separated at Birth that even includes our other Andy Bloch look-a-like!  Strangely Andy Bloch met Andy Bloch in Vegas.  Our Andy came around the corner (of the pros only free food area - I guess they believed he was Andy Bloch) and almost bumped into rich Andy.  It went like this;

Our Andy  "Woah, sorry...Hey you are Andy Bloch"
Rich Andy  "Woah, we could be related"
Our Andy  "ha ha ha"
Rich Andy  "You are like my much shorter cousin!"
Our Andy  "Nice hoagie"
Rich Andy ' Um, thanks?"
Our Andy  "Can I have a bite?
Rich Andy  "There's more in there" (points to the lounge) "Just tell them you are me, ha ha ha"
Our Andy  "Is holding hands out of the question?"

My recollections of the exchange are vague, but it went something like that.

As the first players were knocked out, I had to bring out the '70's bridge table for a side cash game...  We called it the kid's table.

The second tournament of the night was No Limit Hold Em with rebuys and an add on.  The rebuy period was only 1 hour long but generated 37 rebuys from the 18 players!  In the end Ken Chin redeemed the Asian contingent's lacklustre PLO performance by sinching up the bootstraps and laying a licking on anyone who dared cross him.

Event 3 - 2012 WSOD No Limit Hold Em with Rebuys and an Add On winner - Ken Chin
The night was capped off with a cash game that ran until 6:30 in the morning.  For those of you who base their schedules on McDonald's like Hitchcock - it was long into the breakfast menu and way past the wishful thinking of a sack of double cheeseburgers.

For all WSOD winners including those listed above, check out the World Series of Dip tab at the top of the page.

A Dandy Impostor and the Return of the Gym Teacher - August 17, 2011 Results and Pictures

This week the players showed up early and stayed late.  There were lots of really interesting hands and it seemed like everyone had a really distinct and different style of play.  Two jackpots were won and the table was full all night.  It was a fun night, here are the highlights;

Brain Kramp, still reeling from his losses last session, showed up in a vest, "To channel the play of Dandy Bloch"  Unfortunately the vest must be a few years old, because he channeled the 2008 Dandy Bloch, not the game-crushing 2011 Dandy Bloch.  As X would say "That's a Bogey."

Speaking of Nat X, he played surgical like a Doctor, but unlike our house voodoo Dr., Dr. Kramp  - he had lots of patience.

Big Stack Bob was the night's big winner and dazzled with his play and his gym teacher pose.  He really played solid and justified his nickname.

 Following the game, Ali-G booked a consultation with a plastic surgeon for her bad hands.

The Co-Bra played strong, he played silent and he had a plate-full of chips.  He played like that kid from the McCain's commercial.

Army felt the heat and his stack went commando.

T-Money Mart didn't take great care of her little clay children.  CFS removed the chips from her care for being so aggressive and pushy with them.  Eventually with some good behaviour, she was able to earn some visitation rights with a few of them by the end of the game.

Cheeseburger played like rock star.  He came, he collected his appearance fee and he jetted.
OK - So that rock star is Cheeseburger's cousin, Whitney Houston, so it's really not that impressive, but a win is a win...

Harvey came late and was a little short (on his luck).

Lastly, I don't want to admit to money laundering, but I did make a Tidy profit.

The bonus was won twice last game, bringing the total times the jackpot has been won to 7.  No player has won the jackpot twice.  You can check out the 2 players that have been added to the jackpot club as well as the winning hands and jackpot amounts, by clicking here.

Here is more photo evidence of the good time had by most;

The last comment goes to our white board.  We tracked Kramp's losses throughout the night and even had a pie chart of who had the chips he lost.  By the end of the night we needed a longer white board...

Keep posted for another game coming soon.  The Crantini Kid is coming to town and that is as good a reason as any to get a game going.

July 6, 2011 - Halter Tops at the WSOD

First of all, I apologize for the time it took to get this post up.  I went on holidays the morning after the game and only now have had the time / ability to get you up to speed on our last poker night.

We started off with the latest event of this year's World Series of Dip - Event #3 - Pot Limit Omaha.  Below are some pictures from the action.

Possibly the dullest poker picture ever.  Can you figure out which 2 people are awake?

It's as though we are trying to figure out who actually won the hand.

Ryan, Pssst Ryan!  Get it over with, you are about to carve up the cash game to make way more than you could in this tournament.

The final two left standing, um, make that sitting.   Kramp puts on a bray-ve face.

So Lemon, who fancies himself a bit of an Omaha player (and who we fancy as a bit of a ridonkulous gambler) missed his favourite tournament to ride in little cars.  That left 7th place wide open for the taking -HAHAHAHAHA....whew!

The tournament has a structure that allowed for a lot of play, but then again this is Omaha and people love to get their chips in the middle.  By the time we got down to the final 4, Harvey, Brain Kramp and I all were in decent shape and Kailey was on life support.  Harvey was the first to go, sending his chips to Brain Kramp and placing Kailey in the money, yet again.  When Brain Kramp and I got heads up we didn't make things easy on ourselves, the play went for 2 hours heads up with each of us outplaying the other for an hour.  In the end, Kramp won his first WSOD bracelet, congratulations.  You can see the official winner's picture here.  Here is a picture of the bracelet he was awarded;

Kramp and his new WSOD halter top.
The cash game was fast and furious.  I didn't play due to how late the tournament ran.  Kegel Kramp did and his great night kept on going.  The other big winners at the table was Dycker and Harvey.  Harvey cracked K-Diddy's Aces with low suited connectors and I sure he is still perma-grinning over that monster pot.

The jackpot was won once again.  Follow this link to find out who won and how much they took down.  I will tell you that for the second straight time, the winning hand was 2 red Aces.

Finally, In honour of the fact that Kramp's first bracelet is in Omaha, I'm giving you all a bonus link to a little company in Omaha, Texas.

Enjoy! - Irony at it's finest

June 5th 2011 Results and Insults

The Butcher
Dandy knows that if he dresses ridiculously enough, his wife will kick him out of the house and he will be free to play cards for the night.  This get-up should buy him at least 3 nights out.

Our latest home game was a rare Sunday game and Dandy and Brain Kramp reminded me of 2 movies;
Pass The Dip: Dandy Bloch and Brain Kramp in T.O.yland - Original Pass The Dip Video
and...

Dandy played 3rd pair to a winner 60% of the time.  He played Q9 off preflop to a $15 raise 80% of the time and he was downright awesome 100% of the time.  But then again, I'm not really a math guy.

I tried a new strategy - the C.H.i.P.S. strategy.  I burst onto the scene, had everyone watching and then I self destructed.  In the end my C.H.i.P.S. went away.

Kailey and Dycker were like a young Forrest Gump - they ran bad.

Papasan had Jacks 3 times that were shown and each time shoved all in.  After successfully winning all 3 pots, I think the poker community can lay to rest the age old question "How the hell do you play Jacks?"

For being new to the game I was impressed with his play.  He had built a nice profit for himself, and gave very few free chips back to the pot.  And then he met the Anti-Chris.  7 Nation Army and Papasan got in  a big action pot and the postman delivered!  Army's J high flush out pipped Papasan's 8 high flush and Army had crushed another stack.

Co played great and had the chip stack to prove it.  The man has been silently crushing the game for months now.

Brain Kramp was admittedly not only running bad, but playing (and I'm paraphrasing her, despite the official quotes) "as bad as anyone has ever played in the history of the world, ever.  Even worse than if Hellen Keller and the cast of Dumb and Dumber had a baby and then shut it in a room so that the only thing it was ever exposed to was Jersey Shore and then gave it a deck of cards and told it to play poker."  It got so bad that he started frantically texting Sheldonkey to try and goad him into coming for the last hour.  He did manage to have a remarkable turnaround, mainly at my expense, and for that I tip my hat and pin a participation ribbon on his jacket.

I found out why Nat X is in such good shape - he must of been losing a lot at poker lately.  There is nothing like a very very very very long walk to clear your head and shed some pounds.

The night was a very fun one with plenty of frustration in the cards to go around.  The company was good, the conversation was lively and Brain Kramp finally won, so we know he'll be back!

Here are some pictures from the game:

"He has missed parties he has never attended.  He once had a winning hand, just to see how it feels.  He's  lost money betting on solitaire.  He only makes the right folds while doing Origami.  When he was younger, he wrote a song named 'Beck'.  His mother has a tattoo that reads 'childless'.  He can roll his eyes in three different languages.  He is the unluckiest man in the world."

Planning a Second Trip to T.O.

I offer you Kramp's head on a platter.....of chips

Poker for idiots is for idiots indeed.
By the way I kinda feel like Sheldonkey and T-Money Mart got a little gypped in this post.  They both came to play and not only are they not in the pictures, but there is nary an insult in this post to be found.  I will give them their comeuppance next time around.  (That was your comeuppance under your chair was it not, T-Mart?)  I think Sheldon lost his to Brain Kramp in a massive bluff...

I'm Gonna Clock Someone - May 20, 2011 Results and Photos

Last night's game started with the tournament.  To start the night Brain Kramp had been the subject of many ill-intentioned comments, so I offered him an olive branch and said that I would be in his corner and back him for the night.  This would be at no additional cost, although the lesson rates still applied.

I am thinking about running a promotion, or rather a punishment where the last person to arrive late has to wear the Flava Flav gear.  All but 2 people (well one and me) showed up for the posted time.  And the person that showed up on time thought the tournament started earlier.  The other players were Hellmuthian with their entrance.  But I digress...

Being late was not Flava Flav's only chronic problem

*Sigh - OK - Brain Kramp won, alright?  Whew, that hurt a little.  Sorry to ruin any possible suspense, but it hurts less to rip off the band aid than than to do the slow peel.

Blah blah blah, OK, moving along with the post...
The Money Shot
Kailey made the money yet again.  For those that didn't vote for her and Co in the last poll, go put your head in the corner for 1 minute before you read on.

There - purgatory over.  Kailey played great!  Another strong showing but she couldn't kick some ass* when faced with Kramp-a-Lamp-a-Ding-Dong heads up.  She did however knock off both myself and Papasan in the same hand...

These are not the first dudes Kailey has left looking like this.
Jason Spades did what Jason Spades does.  He makes money at poker.  He sweated a small stack for some time, but Kailey and Brain Kramp refused to give him any room to build and he made a bit of cheddar for finishing in 3rd.

The Cash Game

What we rarely see is how a true student of the game prepares for an action game of No Limit Hold Em like we run.  Dandy, fresh off multiple wins following his poker lessons in T.O. has agreed to let us "behind the scenes" during his prep session...

Dandy reviewing his video log of his lessons with Brain Kramp for inspiration.  I am Dandylion, hear me ROAR!
This week the cash game was locked and loaded and firing with both barrels right from the gate.  I think a small part of this might be attributed to Lemon chasing his 10+ish re-buys from the tournament and setting up camp in blufftown.  In all fairness, money kept flying onto the table as the deck set up victim after victim with big pair over big pair and big draws vs made hands.  You couldn't play with fear on this night.

Jason had AK, Lemon A9, the 9 windows, Jason yelped and the King-ball was the second card off the deck - sweet justice was served as a steaming pile of white chips!

Lemon AKA Russell Hantz and T-Mart played poker "Survivor" but Lemon's chips abandoned him at the merge.

I'm not going to write a smart comment about Dandy because frankly this picture frightens me, and I don't want to be accused of irony.

I am not kidding when I say that the above pictures were the cause of Lemon losing his mind.  He was rambling on to himself about how he is looking forward to going to Vegas with Dandy and wearing just sweater vests on the strip with each of them rocking a boom box on their shoulders.  Mildly amusing - sure, (probably funnier if Lemon just shaved his arms and neck and rocked a faux sweater vest) but I actually thought we were going to have to paper - rock - scissors to see who would have to drag his carcass out of the way so we could continue playing.

Ali and Bob flew in from Vegas during our tournament and we frantically texted game updates throughout.  When they landed, they drove into town during the first few hours of the cash game, and eventually made it to the table where BSB promptly picked up where he left off at the Flamingo hours earlier - shaking his head at his mis-fortune.

I want to give a shout out to Brain Kramp's brother Mikeweiser who came out for the first time and fit right in; he was making fun of Chris even worse than the rest of us.

Sheldonkey didn't show up this week - I suspect he wants to keep a clean sweep at the poll that's currently running and didn't want to have a couple of unlucky hands ruin all he's worked so hard to accomplish.

Several nicknames blossomed this week as well. First of all Brain Kramp was particularly snake bit by 7 Nation Army again this week and kept referring to him as The Anti-Chris.  Army seemed to take great pleasure in Kramp's pain.  Then Kramp turned his focus on Lemon wanted to name him "Easy Money Lemon" which got shortened to EML in short order.  It got thrown around like Lemon's stack and was great fun to needle with.  It also makes Lemon's eyes do a slow roll, which as we all know is bad poker etiquette, but we wouldn't want to tap the glass now would we?  If Brain Kramp spent as much time thinking about his poker game as he did thinking about giving poker names, he'd have less of an excuse when he lost.

AND FINALLY...the jackpot was won yet again this week, this time by T-Money Mart.  You can see the hand details here.  At the cash game she won a lot of chips and she won a lot of hearts (well heart draws really, but what's the difference?)

*ass - A quadruped of the genus Equus (E. asinus), smaller than the horse, and having a peculiarly harsh bray and long ears. The tame or domestic ass is patient, slow, and sure-footed, and has become the type of obstinacy and stupidity.  Also known as a donkey or a chris.
