Looking to buy / Looking to sell

I know of someone wanting to buy a second hand poker table if anyone has one kicking around collecting dust.

I also have chairs for sale - I previously posted about them and had a little interest, but no takers, so I've changed the price and am selling them $3 a piece or $40 for the lot.  Here is the previous posting with the updated price:

With the purchase of new chairs for our poker game, I now have 18 chairs for sale.  Some of them have almost never been used while a few of them have small rips in the vinyl or the seat slants forward.  I am looking to sell the lot for $40.  If I don't get any offers for the lot, I will be willing to sell them by piece.  E-mail me or comment below if you are interested.

Imagine yourself sitting in this very chair.  It doesn't have to be just a crazy fantasy...

Poll Results

It seems as though our regular voters didn't want to give props to the players that always have their number.  I get it though - when a player that you think is inferior to you has your number, you don't really want to give them the nod in a poll when you feel they keep sucking out on you!

A new poll that pairs our home game players in a fantasy tournament is now up and running.  I would like you to vote for your top 3 pairings.  Happy voting!

Campbell For Kids - Charity Poker Tournament

Brian Campbell

This past January, Brian Campbell of the Chicago Blackhawks held the 2nd annual Campbell for Kids Texas Hold Em Poker Tournament in support of Autism Speaks as well as other fine charities.

(If this blog would have existed back then, I would have been all over it!)

This event was held at the Horseshoe Casino in Chicago and was full of Chicago celebrities and of course the entire Blackhawks team.  In a pretty cool twist, anyone that knocked out a Blackhawk got the jersey off his back, signed.  The event raised $160 000 for Campbell for Kids and in a classy move, the gentleman that won the event donated his first place money back to the charity.

If anyone is up for a January road trip in 2012...

Federated Sports and Gaming League

Earlier this year Annie Duke announced that her dream of a player-driven poker league was finally coming to fruition.  This league will provide player cards for the top 200 players in the world as determined by their ranking system.  The tournaments will be open to the 200 carded players as well as players that win their way in via $1500 pro-ams.  The season will end with a $1 000 000 freeroll for the top 27 finishers from the year's events.  All events will have a buy-in of $20 000 and will be held at the Palms Casino and Resort.

Jeffery Pollack, the highly regarded former President and Commissioner of the WSOP as well as the group that ran Youbet.com are involved in the project with Duke.

The poker world has a lot of poker leagues running right now and a lot that have tried and failed.  I think this league has a chance to make it, given the player - first attitude and having tournament guru Jeffery Pollack involved definitely gives it some instant credibility.  Because of the recent issues with on-line gambling in the States, this may force more pros to hit the brick and mortars.  We will see how the on-line scene plays out, but it probably won't hurt league attendance.

Here is Federated Sports and Gaming's website;

Here is a well written article that details everything you need to know about this new league;

"Poker is 100% skill and 50% luck." - Phil Hellmuth

"Limit poker is a science, but no-limit is an art. In limit, you are shooting at a target. In no-limit, the target comes alive and shoots back at you." - Jack Strauss

"Most of the money you'll win at poker comes not from the brilliance of your own play, but from the ineptitude of your opponents."  - Lou Krieger

"Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards.  I got a full house and four people died." - Steven Wright

Dip on the Road - Week 1 of 10

Last night was the first of 10 nights in our road to the World Series of Poker 2012.  The details of this league are here Look Out! Dip on the Road Ahead!

We started out by giving all the players a card marker - Sloppy Slow Pots traded for the "Angel Wings" and didn't realize until the end of the night that it was his to keep.  Whoops.

We had the place stocked with snacks and drinks, and of course the Blackhawks were dominating on the big screen.  Cards started to fly at exactly 7:00 as the stragglers straggled in.

Sloppy played 2 poker matches and managed to fit in a hockey game right smack in the middle.
Philly got renamed Philadelphia.  Maybe it's because of his lesions of fans.
Bobby openly admired Chocolate Chips.
Dycker needled Dandy, who seemed not to notice.
K-Diddy went home to do his laundry mid tournament (I guess a man has to look good.)
Lemon shove fested.
I gave myself a lot of time to take care of the periphery items.
Cheeseburger played like a Big Mac
Nat X was spectacular in his absence.
Chocolate Chips landed chips like it was Christmas at Heathrow.
Dandy played like he was a big deal!

Even More Poker Shirts

Another instalment of poker shirts for your enjoyment.  I love shirt #23.  Obviously we all automatically think of certain players at our game when we look at the other shirts.  The only reason why these kind of shirts never actually sell is because the players that they belong on, never realize that they are the donkey  looking in the water, and if they did they certainly don't want to advertise it.  They are more likely to wear a golf shirt that says Kramp Chiropractic.

Raging V Poker Club - March 26, 2011 pictures

I hear that the girls had a blast at Kailey's at the last Raging V poker game.  I also hear that Verve make a mean jello shooter.  I'm no genealogist but I think the two are related.

I also hear that Brody was the lone male in the place and he couldn't handle the "hens" so he took off.  The proof is in the pictures below.

The board of directors for the Raging V Poker Club call their meeting to order.

Did I mention Brody is the dog?

Never feed your dog jello shooters - they have to pee every 5 minutes.

Much like her poker game, Bobby is on the fence

Stairs 1 - Bobby 0

Kirby's fish hunting gear

T-Mart in camouflage and bunny ears.  Does she want to be noticed or not?

Stand if you want me to deal again.  Thanks Bobby!

There is another Raging V game planned for April 27th.  For more info visit their dedicated page on the right.

On-Line Poker Banned in the USA

On-line poker players in the USA had their version of Black Friday yesterday when the big three American sites were hit with a number of charges by the federal government.

At this time it appears that American on-line poker players are blocked from playing on Full Tilt, Poker Stars and Absolute Poker (Ultimate Bet).

Please follow the below link to a full report on pokernews.com

Poker League Starts This Week!

The mystery surrounding the cryptic page called Look Out!  Dip on the Road Ahead! has been cleared.

I've updated the page to reveal a year long poker league.

If it goes well in the inaugural year, we may expand to more than the 11 players we have this year.  There has been plenty of interest from players other than those that were quick to sign up.

The first game is this Tuesday night and I will be posting pictures, results and on-going stats in the days following.

Click here for more information on this awesome development.

From the Felt to the Felt Up

Apparently last week in Albuquerque, New Mexico a man was sentenced to 12 years in jail after failing to win back restitution that he owed to investors he bilked in a ponzi scheme.  The interesting thing about this story is that the judge had delayed the prison time in order to allow the man time to win back some of the money by winning poker tournaments.

Samuel McMaster Jr. an ex-insurance agent stole $450 000 from 23 senior citizens had been given the chance by Judge Ross Sanchez last August but had failed to earn any money during his 6 month reprieve from jail.

It looks like state officials will probably re-examine the ways in which restitutions will be made as a result of McMaster.

No doubt.
Samuel McMaster Jr. - A sentenced bluffer.
I imagine prison won't be kind to the thief.  File this under "From the Felt to the Felt Up."

Laak The Doors

I will be adding video clips to the rotation of this blog's regular features.

For the clips of hands that have been played at levels slightly higher than ours, I will start us off with a very entertaining hand.  Maybe I find it entertaining because it reminds me of Me (Dwan) vs Brain Kramp (Laak) at our home game....

Enjoy!

Stripes Excerpt - Great John Candy Poker Clip!

Fish Bubbles and the Promised Land - April 8, 2011 Results and Pictures

We had 2 Dippers in the MB Poker open last night.  Co reports with a head shake that it went terrible.  The details were sketchy but apparently his K9 got run down by a straight.  With only 20 minutes of playing time, he was ready to play some cards!  Lemon was the other player that ponied up and he was off to a promising start.  I was getting twitter like updates as he knocked out 4 other players and built up quite a stack.  Then the guy that had him covered at the table limped before him and was the only caller when Mike raised with 10s.  The flop came 10, 6 , 2 and the guy checked to our hero.  Mike bet out and got raised all in.  Mike calls and the guy tables AA.  Of course an Ace came and Mike was out long before the money.

Both Lemon and Co showed for the game last night.  So did Dandy, Kailey and Dycker - all directly from the airport, jonesin for some poker.  Nice!

The tournament started with 10 people and 1 fish seated at 2 tables.  No other entrants showed by the second level so we combined to make a cosy table of 11.

The couples table - BSB and Ali G, Dycker and Kailey, T-Money Mart and the ATM, Lemon.

Was that a raise of $100 Papasan?  I smell something fishy!

They say the shirt makes the man.

It's like Wrestlemania, there can only be one left standing.

This reminds me of a Hardy Boys book - T-Mart and the case of the vanishing chips.

This was a crazy hand - 4 players all in and Co's AA holds up.

I'm no biologist, but I'm pretty sure fish make bubbles and Papasan was no different.  In his first poker game ever, he was the bubble boy.  Sheldon and Geppedo were very helpful at his first table draw to help out with the finer things in the game like explaining what the 4 suits were.  I think the fact that Sheldon used a bottle of tartar sauce as his card marker and Mike a lemon were telling signs that they wished to carve him up and have a meal of fish and chips.

Ali-G had another strong showing and finished in the money yet again (this girl never misses)!

The Co-Bra and the snake charmer.

Pivotal hand - I had J9 of hearts and flop open ended, turn the flush draw and blank the river.   Hello second place!

So it was down to Co and I.  Co started with 54997 chips and I had 3.  I did make a game of it but it was taking a while and Co does not like to see a juicy cash game playing beside him that he is not playing in, so he stepped on the gas and ran me over.  Congratulations!  (Given the choice, I think this win means more to him than taking down some silly MB poker open).

Winner, winner, chicken dinner.

The cash game was a 3 ring donk fest as usual with Dandy, Sheldon and I felting some actual poker players to all come out winners.

A totally unrelated picture of the cast of Hee Haw.

Call me Mary.  Last night I rode a donkey to the promised land.  I think when Dandy and Brain Kramp were *smashing hooves, I guess Kramper's horseshoe fell off and his luck ran out.

There was another jackpot taken down last night -  Click here to see someone that is REALLY exited to get back a small % of the nights losses...

Here are a couple of pictures from the game;

To be honest this is the only picture I have of Big Country and he's too damn big to fit in the photo.

As Ali-G says "This is Bob's gym teacher pose".  Meanwhile Army gets into the soothing sounds of Chris DeBurgh who happened to be on the random 80's mix.

Kramp lays down 22 to a small raise 5 handed and the flop comes 229.   On a related note, my pizza cat, Papa John took the DonkeyTest.com quiz and scored 91 - 3 better than Brain Kramp.

*smashing hooves - the practice where two donkeys get really excited and attempt to hi-five one another.
