WSOP Rematches

Moneymaker vs Farha, 2011

As reported in an earlier post, this is a series of matches where famous matchups are replayed.  Johnny Chan exacted his revenge in an earlier match against Phil Hellmuth Jr.

In the latest matchup, Chris Moneymaker was up against the man he beat in the 2003 WSOP, Sammy Farha.  This match went to the third and deciding match.  The action was pretty intense until Farha had Moneymaker all in with revenge 2 cards away.  Farha had flopped top 2 with his J 10 - ironically the hand he lost the 2003 main event with, to Moneymaker's top and bottom pair.  The turn was a blank and the river was a 2, giving Moneymaker a massive lead.  The match lasted only a couple of hands longer as Farha falls to Moneymaker once again.

Event #5:  Seven Card Stud

Eugene Katchalov - Event #5 winner

Buy-in: $1 500
Prizepool:  $481 950
Entries:  357

First place money:  $122 909

Timing is everything and Eugene Katchalov waited until the match went heads up with Alessio Isaia to have, as Poker News says "good fortune".  In the final hand, Katchalov had running cards to make 2 pair, and to beat Isaia's made 2 pair.  Timing is everything!

Event 6 ($1 500Limit Hold'em), Event 7 ($10 000 Pot Limit Hold'em), Event 8 ($1 000 No Limit Hold'em) and Event 9 ($1 500 2-7 Lowball (No Limit) are all now underway.
