Alex Rodriguez |
Much to the chagrin of Major League Baseball, New York Yankees third baseman, Alex Rodriguez has been linked to the Hollywood home game mentioned in the past couple of weeks that featured Tobey Maguire, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.
Apparently MLB wants to meet with him in the next few days to discuss his role in the "illegal" poker games. It has been reported that they would like him "to stop getting in these crazy situations" but they will not be suspending him for his involvement.
It is unclear who was at the game the night A-Rod first played, but one on-line site reports that one player was "coked up"and record label owner Cody Leibel, whose house the game was at, refused to pay his losses which was reported to be $500 000. After a fight almost broke out, Leibel apparently paid most of what was owed to the players. A-Rod was said to be a small loser on the night, quietly paid his loss and left.
The Hollywood home game is said to be run by Molly Bloom (sister to Philadelphia Eagle Jeremy Bloom). Her involvement came to light as part of a deposition into Brad Ruderman who was jailed for running a Ponzi scheme.
Bloom is said to have helped Rodriguiz run his own hush-hush poker game in Miami just weeks after the Leibel incident. This game didn't go as planned either as one loser called in his muscle when it came time to pay his debt. A-Rod and Bloom left at that point. Besides calling the other players after the incident, he has had no other involvement in Bloom's high stakes games.
Bloom is one of many people being sued by Ruderman's investors in an attempt to re-coup their money.
